![]() (2) compute the Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time (GMST) from the Julian Date (JD), (be sure to use at least 64 bit floating point numbers) (1) get Julian Date either from UTC or Unix Time. Local Time and DST are based on UTC offset and Time Zone that your government wants you to be in, so that everybody goes to work at the same time.įor heaven's sakes get a copy of Jean Meeus, "Astronomical Algorithms," 2nd Edition, ISBN 0-94 if you have forgotten what you had learned in Astronomy 101. GMST can be obtained from the Julian Date (which in turn can be obtained from UTC and Unix Date).ĭaylight Saving changes the Local Time (when your alarm clock wakes you up in the morning). The Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time is based on the exact time at the Greenwich Observatory in London when the Sun passes through the vernal equinox. If you add anything to the LST, it is no longer the LST. Why are you adding anything to the Local Sidereal Time? It is a fundamental number that is based on the Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time (GMST) and your Local Longitude. You own both the mount and ASIAir and can't get this LST will add one hour if daylight be set. ZWO: If you are reading this please fix this. To say this is annoying is an understatement.īoth the mount and the Air are running latest firmware releases This has been reported on ZWO forums for months with seemingly no resolution. Will try it this afternoon with no scope on the mount to test this out. The only workaround I can think of is to set my iPad to UTC. Both the mount and the Air get their time from my iPad. ![]() ![]() There is no way to turn off DST in the AM5 that I can find. ![]() ![]() So the Air reports 1hr until meridian flip and the mount is 2cm away from crashing my camera into the tripod. The time reported by the Air and AM5 show different time zone offsets -7 and -8 respectively but show the same local time which means LST is not correct. It’s ironic that the only mount that gets this wrong is the AM5. On 3 of them I have disabled DST and the mount’s LST is correct and meridian flips happen before my rig slams (albeit in slow motion) into the tripod. I own 4 mounts with an associated ASIAIR Plus. ![]()
